GROM Audio iPod iPhone adapter V2 Honda Acura 03 and up Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned and have been using the GROM iPhone adapter in my Acura TSX for a few months now. Here are my thoughts.
First, the good:
-Cheap! Compared to alternatives by iSimple, DICE, etc., this unit is a steal.
-Easy to install; start to finish it took me about 10 minutes
-Sound quality much better than using AUX and
-Charging works very well
The bad:
-The GROM adapter masquerades as a CD changer, but some times the signal is not picked up my the Acura head unit when I start the car. When this happens, the only way to make it work is to turn off the car and then start it up again. I have checked all connections multiple times, so that is not the issue. The manual itself (along with GROM support) lists restarting the car as a solution for this issue. Really?? I have literally sat in my car in a parking lot and turned my car on and off 9 times so that I can play some tunes on my drive home.
-Turning on/off headlights while music is playing seems to wreak havoc on the GROM unit. The solution for this is to turn the stereo off, turn the headlights on, then turn the stereo back on. If I fail to do this and just turn the headlights on/off, the dimming on the display will cause the song to pause and the audio to be muted. Once again the car needs to be restarted for the signal to be picked up properly.
The ugly:
-I emailed GROM support about this issue and was told to check my connections and send it in for an RMA if it was still having problems. The connections were fine of course, and so I contacted them about an RMA but never received a response back.
In my opinion this product is a cheap hack. When it works, it works pretty well, and I can control my iPhone using the steering wheel controls or from the iPhone itself. The issues are a nuisance though, and if I could do it over again I would have spent the extra $$$ for another brand with better support.
