Dice i-VW-R VW IPod Adapter w/ Aux Input Review

I have 08 VW Rabbit with factory iPod kit installed, the kit worked great back in 2008 but now most iPods and iPhones need 5V power supply. Not only this made my car stereo better it gave me more features. It took literarily 20 minutes to install. I just pulled out the iPod connector box inside the arm-rest, took out 4 screws from the bottom of it, disconnected the 12-pin cable and plugged in the DICE adapter. This fits right in, theres enough room for adapter in the arm-rest which is great because some kits are bulky.
I love that I can listen to my iPod again, I can plug in my iPhone and turn on some international radio or Pandora, works great, sounds great, I love it. Oh and of course there's also AUX option for my one friend who has a Zune, LOL, what an a**hole.

I just got this Dice Ipod Adapter for my 2003 Audi A4 and I can't believe how easy it was to install. The hardest part was taking out my radio (which is pretty simple if you have the radio removal keys). Installing it was incredibly easy! The sound is amazing with my Ipod Touch and best of all it charges while I am listening to music. It may be a little pricey, but definitely worth it in my opinion!

Dice i-Honda-R3 Gen2 Honda/Acura IPod Adapter w/ Aux Input Review

I bought one of these a year a go to use with a 03 Honda Accord. My iPod is a fourth gen (I think). The initial setup is kind of confusing but I was able to get it working. When the device is operating it works fine. I can move from track to track with my factory stereo. Sounds quality is good. The device allows the switching between track album and artist. I would have preferred to switch between genres instead of albums. The device lets you control the ipod from the stereo and from the ipod itself (at the time of purchase was unique to DICE, no other ipod adapter allowed dual control). Overall it does everything I could want for casual usage.
Unfortunately there is a fatal fail with the DICE connector and the 03 Honda Accord (possible other years as well, but I only know about my year). The Honda Accord stereo wont recognize the DICE device 50 percent of the time. That means 1 out of 2 times I turn power on to the Honda stereo I have to turn it off and turn it back on and hope the stereo recognizes the DICE device. This wouldn't be such a problem, except that when I start the cars engine the Honda Stereo also restarts. I have to turn off the car and turning it back on just to get the DICE device to work, this puts undue wear and tear on my engine and starter. This problem is not specific to my Honda, other people with the same year have the same problem. DICE tech support has known about this for over a year and half and has not done anything. I made a call today to check for an update, they informed they had no plans to address this issue, in fact they blamed the Honda Stereo. I don't believe it's the Honda Stereo, rather a design flaw in the DICE unit.
If it wasn't for the "not starting" issue I would probably would give it 4 or 5 stars. But to me it is an unacceptable flaw in the device.

Dice i-BMW-T Silverline Pro BMW/Mini Cooper IPod Adapter w/ Aux Input Review

I chose the Dice Silverline over the unit sold by BMW because of it's ability to navigate by Artist and Album in addition to Playlists. BMW's unit requires you to set up playlists BMW1, BMW2, etc. The playlists are then accessed directly via the radio buttons 1-6. While the Dice concept is great, I'd have to give the design execution a failing mark. Scrolling is EXTREMELY slow; which in itself would render the extra navigation features nearly useless (unless you're driving cross-country and have all day to press a button, wait 2 seconds, and repeat many, many, many times in order to find that Artist who's name starts with "M"). The real problem is that if you happen to step through your list too fast, either the iPod or the Dice unit (and sometimes, both) lock up and require a reset. Resetting the iPod is pretty straight forward. Resetting the Dice unit requires either removing the glove-box to get at the unit or taking your trunk apart to get at the connector. Alternatively, you can disconnect both your battery terminals and wait the 1/2 hour for the Dice to reset. This also requires you to reprogram your radio presets on recovery. No matter which method you choose, it's a royal PITA. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW YOU ARE STEPPING TOO FAST UNTIL MELTDOWN OCCURS! I realize that the speed of execution bottleneck is probably in the iPod and not the Dice unit. Nevertheless, the Dice unit is in-line between your radio control and the ipod. It should, therefore, be able to at least monitor and inhibit your input enough to avoid the melt-down. If this requires more than just a simple firmware modification (e.g. a more sophisticated micro-controller) then Dice should upgrade it's electronics. I'd certainly be willing to pay the up-charge, if any, required to effect a better design implementation.
As it stands, if you avoid using the effectively useless Artist and/or Album navigation and stick with Playlists, you're still ahead with the Dice versus the BMW in that you are only limited in the number of playlists you are willing to SLOWLY navigate. And you're not required to set up any device-specific playlists.
Bottom line: Best available but needs work -- use with EXTREME caution if you're not willing to constantly remove, reset, and re-install.
