(More customer reviews)This is the L6, similar to other FiiO Ls for other MP3 players. For those who do not know what a line out (or line level output) means, I will merely say it is an output that should bypass all amplification (headphone) and tone (equalizer) circuits. For those (like me) who modify their MP3 files in Audacity to get what they want, this is quite important when I play music through my loudspeakers. In fact, I chose the Fuze partly because the FiiO L6 was available. When I first connected the L6, I was quite disappointed to find that the Fuze headphone amplifier was not bypassed (or at least the volume control still worked). My firmware was 2.02.22 or something like that, not 2.03.33. I upgraded with little expectation, but the new firmware not only eliminated the amplification (volume control only at my NAD amplifier and my car stereo, not on the Fuze), it also solved a lot of music library problems (unwanted rearrangement of my album contents).
For those with Mac, I mention the firmware upgrade method: go to Sandisk Fuze support and download the appropriate software. Drag the files (not the folder, 2.03.33 has 2 files) into the main directory of the Fuze (not the micro SD card). Eject the Fuze and the update will take 1 or 2 minutes and happen automatically.
I also ordered the Aurum 3.5mm male-to-male cable (in case the L6 did not work) to use in the headphone out. Although the headphone circuits are obviously not bypassed, sound is OK and (casual listening) I could not tell the difference from the L6 before the firmware change. Now the L6 seems to sound better (perhaps my imagination). But this is a high-quality cable (Chinese company sourcing product in Japan--my how things have changed). Obviously firmware cannot change pin-outs but if I had already had 2.03.33 installed, I would have thought it was indeed line level output (and maybe it is, I do not have an EE background).
