Clarion CZ200 In-Dash CD / MP3 / WMA / AAC Reciever with USB Review

Clarion CZ200 In-Dash CD / MP3 / WMA / AAC Reciever with USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The product looked very promising, particularly considering it was "Featured" on Crutchfield. However, I exchanged it for JVC Arsenal KD-AHD69 due to the following shortcommings:
1. iPOD CONTROL:
Crutchfield does mention this in their review that you can only control the iPod via the Clarion. That seemed fine with me, however the iPod controls on the Clarion turned out to be very poor due to the following:
(a) SCROLLING THROUGH LIST: If you have 1000s of songs and the one you want starts with one of the last few letters, you will be turning the dial on the Clarion for several minutes before you reach the song you want, because scrolling progresses alphabetically. This could have been avoided if you could turn the dial anti-clockwise and go in the reverse order... but NO.. you always start at alphabet "A" and the only way to reach "Z" is to pass all the other alphabets.
The JVC Arsenal KD-AHD69 I exchanged this for jumps forward by 10, 100, 1000 songs depending on the speed with which you turn the scroll wheel.
(b) If a unit does not allow for control via iPod, it needs to have satisfactory iPod control capability like "search", "on-the fly playlist creation" etc.
(c) I connected an in-compatible version of iPod and the unit goes into a perpetual loop to trying to read the device . The JVC unit I exchanged this for says "Cannot Play" within a few seconds.
2. FM RECEPTION:
(a) During FM reception the volume kept abruptly fluctuating. I first thought it was speakers and since I was going to replace it anyway I waited till that was done. New speakers did not solve the problem and then I thought maybe I needed to replace my antenna, but by then I decided to exchange the unit and the JVC Arsenal KD-AHD69 works perfect.
(b) Extremely poor tuning circuitry. When I drive up my company parking garage, the reception almost becomes zero with mixing of adjacent stations. The JVC now provides crystal clear audio (non-HD stations) even inside my company parking garage.
3. BLUE'S BLUE:
Crutchfield pictures depict the Clarion to have a decent mild blue color, but in reality it is a bright, in-your-face blue. It looks very gaudy and if your interior lights are not blue, then this player will really not fit in visually. The JVC has vari-color and so now I have a perfectly matched color.
4. BUTTON FEEL:
The button feel is hard to press. The layout of the buttons won me over on paper, but using them is a slight disappointment... let me explain: Let us take the "Menu" button for example. The button will not activate if you press it towards the top.. you need to press it close to the "SRS" button. This is because in order to activate the button, the entire plastic has to flex downward and depress the switch underneath it. For maximum flexing, you have to press all those buttons closer to the "SRS" button. This may seem like trivial, but the design flaw and the repeated efforts you have to make to activate the button get at you after a while.

Enjoy Your Music The CZ200 plays back your CDs and burnt CD-R/RW discs, but it will also take CD-DA discs loaded with MP3/WMA music files, for hours of listening on one disc. You can also play back audio files directly from a USB thumb drive using the USB port.

H.M.I. Balances Design and Usability Clarion's quest for a superior H.M.I. (Human-Machine Interface) resulted in this year's distinctive "starburst" control button array. Buttons are clustered symbolically for intuitive operation, with a large rotary volume control that is blue illuminated for easy recognition and sensational looks.
BeatEQ for User Customizable Sound In addition to providing 3 preset equalization patterns--BASS BOOST, IMPACT, and EXCITE--Clarion's BeatEQ even lets you freely customize the level and range of the bass, midrange and treble portions of each pattern. You can tune the sound to your liking, depending on the category of music, for a more fulfilling listening experience.
Low Pass Filter for Subwoofer Switching on the Low Pass Filter (LPF) will send only the low frequency range through specified outputs to ensure superb performance with a connected subwoofer. A must if you have or plan to add a subwoofer to your system.
4ch/2V RCA Output with Subwoofer Control With 2 sets of RCA outputs, you are free to add external power amplifiers to create a more powerful, sophisticated audio system. Also, independent volume control is enabled for the subwoofer so you can adjust the level of bass output to your liking at any time, regardless of the output level of the other channels.

Timex T307S - Clock radio Review

Timex T307S - Clock radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
1. Very hard to set, you must read poor instruction manual carefully. I've had to dig out the instructions several times as near impossible to just look at clock then set.
2. I work rotating shift work so have to change alarm times often, takes a long time to move alarm.
3. Has 3 levels of back light on face, even on low setting the light is to bright so have to keep clock facing away from me.
4. Has radio, but again difficult to use, so I use nature/buzz alarm only.
Now the bad stuff, worked OK for about 2 months but now:
1. Power button won't work so can't turn radio on.
2. The dimmer/snooze button works for snooze but I can no longer cycle through the 3 different light levels.
3. All 4 nature sounds are gone, when set they sound BUZZ alarm only.
I've unplugged unit & pulled BATT's hoping to get unit to reset itself, but no luck. I'm very dissapointed with Timex. Very poor design. Poor quality. I will replace clock with a different brand.

Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 Compact Docking Speakers for iPod and iPhone (White) Review

Logitech Pure-Fi Anywhere 2 Compact Docking Speakers for iPod and iPhone (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just picked these speakers up for my iphone 3G and they work great. The sound is very clear and plenty loud! I listened to them next to the Altec Lansing T612 and the BOSE SDII; these held their own. You will not get the amount of base that the larger units put out but the vocal quality is very good. I needed something that i could listen to music in my bedroom when i fall asleep and this does the trick. I find myself taking them everywhere, the office, outside to wash the cars, and the porch when we grille out. Great sound, good price, and super portable. If you are debating buying these for the others I mentioned, this is a safe bet and will do just fine for most people. I have a complete home stereo system downstairs that contains nothing but highend speakers and I still like to listen to the logitech unit

Alpine CDE-103BT - Radio / CD / MP3 player / USB flash player - Full-DIN - in-dash - 50 Watts x 4 Review

Alpine CDE-103BT - Radio / CD / MP3 player / USB flash player - Full-DIN - in-dash - 50 Watts x 4
Average Reviews:

UPDATE: Crutchfield had Alpine provide me with another unit with updated firmware (Version 310, I think) and I haven't had a problem since. Crutchfield told me they were having Alpine replace all the units they had in stock with the updated version.
I love the unit and recommend you' get it from Crutchfield so you get the updated firmware.
ORIGINAL: I'm having the same issue as Buyer Beware, the internal amp often shuts off when the ignition is turned off as well as the Bluetooth.
But I like the unit so much I still give it 4 stars.
If Alpine would issue a software update and resolve the issue I would give it 5 stars.
I have documented the bug on youtube, just search for CDE-103BT Software Bug.

SanDisk Sansa Fuze 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Silver) Review

SanDisk Sansa Fuze 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What I really like about it is the size, capacity, and most of all price.
The codec support is about average, not great but it satisfies my needs as 99% of my music is encoded in mp3 format.
One of my dislikes is common among all sandisk mp3 players(and most other players) is that the charging/syncing port is proprietary. Not a big issue, mini-usb would have been nice though.
Video playback was smooth(used a mp4 350MB recorded tv show) no sync problems between the audio/video and no stuttering. Too small to really be considered for video playback though.
Picture viewing is about the same as video and by that I mean it works great and the pictures look ok but the screen is so small it is not practical to show off pics with it.
Voice recording works well, don't have to hold it directly to my face to clearly record sounds...although I'm not sure what this can be used for but it is there and works well.
The radio works great, easy station browsing, easy to add stations to presets, and reception is very clear.
The sound is very accurately produced at all ranges. The included headphones fit well and sound good. The volume goes up much higher than I could ever think I would need it. For those of you who are runners, I use the earphones that come with it and they direct the sound very well into my ears so I do not have to make it too loud and can still hear some of the environmental sounds: wind noise is hardly noticeable.
The screen is easy to see in all light conditions, bright, and easy to read.
The build quality feels great. It has generous weight to it, light enough to take running and not really notice it but heavy enough to give it a solid feel. The front of the device is a bit shiny and does tend to attract fingerprints easily but not scratches so far.
Expansion port works great, currently using a 4GB microsdhc to shuttle podcasts/audiobooks between it my pc.
Navigation is a breeze and the menus are very intuitive, the scroll wheel/buttons are easy to find and press even with the player not in sight.
Syncing I very easy to do without the need for bloated software. You can add media to it via a file explorer(drag & drop) or one of several media players like WMP, winamp, and a variety of others. The datbase is auto-updating and works flawlessly. I have seen a few reviews that say the database refresh takes a while. With a completely full internal memory and half full 4gb card my refreshes only take 15-30 seconds.
A few final notes. The boot-up is about 3-5 seconds from off to playing music after pressing the power button. It will resume the music exactly where you left it when turning it off. Actual usable memory is about 7.8 GB. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, best on the market right now but not perfect of course.
UPDATE: 2 new "cons" I have come across. Technically the device is performing as intended but I am hoping for a firmware update to "resolve" these.
1. When scrolling, the speed of scrolling does not increase. Basically takes forever if the song you want is in the second half of the alphabet. This will probably be changed in the next firmware update though.
2. The podcasts are sorted by most recent first. This kind of makes since so you dont have to scroll to the bottom to listen to the newest one but it also causes a problem if you are trying to listen to a series in order and it starts playing through them backwards. :( Probably no "fix" for this issue although being able to choose how it is sorted would be great.

Bought this last summer for my 07 Toyota Tacoma. Had just purchased a new stereo and needed something to bypass my onboard amp. Worked fine for 3-4 months. Now has a lot of static, sound is terrible with a lot of static on one side and can't play on both front & rear anymore. This weekend will be wiring around the amp in my truck and putting this item where it belongs - in the trash bin.

Dual XR4110 AM/FM USB/SD/3.5-mm Mechless Receiver (Gray) Review

Dual XR4110 AM/FM USB/SD/3.5-mm Mechless Receiver (Gray)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Simple little device that is very flexible. The radio reception AM and FM is good both in the city and on the highway. Music from the SD card is the easiest way to use the "mech less" device. Be aware that the unit is limited to 16gb, not a real limitation with the SD card but I have an older generation ipod that is 20gb and it will not play through the USB port. However, I can use the auxiliary port with the ipod just fine. The built-in amplifier is not terribly powerful but does put out some good sound in my 1988 VW Vanagon which has a big interior space. I need to turn up the volume control almost all the way if I want it to play loudly. But there are jacks on the unit to connect an external amplifier. Hey, what can you expect for $40. All in all, I am quite satisfied and think that you get a lot of basic features for a cheap price. We shall see how it's long term durability is in a few years but I assume since it's all electronic (hence the term mech less)that there's not much that can go wrong from a wear standpoint. I would highly recommend this unit as a strong value and candidate to replace/upgrade any stock unit in your car.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Dual XR4110 AM/FM USB/SD/3.5-mm Mechless Receiver (Gray)

This "mechless" receiver from Dual Electronics does away with mechanical playback entirely--no discs, no cassettes--just your digital music collection on USB devices or SD cards, your favorite digital music player through the auxiliary input, or some AM/FM radio.

USB/SD Playback The XR4110 features a convenient front-panel USB (1.1) port, for playback of your favorite MP3/WMA files. Connect USB devices with up to 16 GB capacities, and access hours of programming.

Right next to the USB port is a slot for SD cards. Support for SD cards is also 16 GB, giving you yet another storage option for your MP3s and WMAs. SD cards are even more convenient for quickly swapping out, for an almost infinite amount of music right there in your glove compartment.

Auxiliary Input Of course, most folks with a substantial digital music collection also have a favorite iPod or other MP3 player. The standard 3.5-mm mini jack aux input lets you connect and enjoy it. And yes, you can even hook up a portable CD player if you wanted some good old-fashioned skipping playback.

AM/FM Radio Listen to your favorite morning show or catch up on the traffic, news, or weather with the built-in AM/FM tuner. Eighteen FM and 12 AM presets let you instantly pull up your favorite stations.

Blue Display The XR4110 features a brilliant blue four-character display, along with matching blue button illumination.

Preamp Outputs The XR4110 has 60 watts of total power (15 watts x 4 channels), but if you'd like a little more, a pair of 2V preamp outputs is included for system expansion.

One-Year Warranty Dual offers a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

Peripheral PXDX/PXHGM3 GM Aux Audio RCA/3.5mm In Adapter Review

Peripheral PXDX/PXHGM3 GM Aux Audio RCA/3.5mm In Adapter
Average Reviews:

I have one of these for a 2004 Toyota Camry; bought this one for a 2003 GMC Envoy. Pretty easy to install; the hardest part is getting the dash apart. For help on that, check out victorytechnologies 929 instructions at this link:
[...]
Pretty straightforward: take apart the dash, unscrew the radio, attach the unit to the CD changer slot, and then wire the unit to power. The easiest way is to splice into one of the three cigarette lighter power outlets in the Envoy.
If you're somewhat proficient with tools, this project should be done in about an hour or less.
As for quality: very nice! Sounds much better than any FM transmitter or cassette deck interface. This gives you CD quality sound; I have a Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS hooked up to this for MP3 playback and directions through the SUV speakers.
One other thing for Garmin owners: if you've noticed that your "voices" are to low, you can increase the volume of those voices through TTSVoiceEditor. Download it at:
[...]

Metra 70-1771 Radio Wiring Harness for Ford/Lincoln/Mazda 1998-Up into Car, 16 Pin Review

Metra 70-1771 Radio Wiring Harness for Ford/Lincoln/Mazda 1998-Up into Car, 16 Pin
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I picked this harness up for an installation on a 2003 Ford F-150. It was easy to install but the instructions do have the "dimmer" wire labeled as Orange/White when it was Orange/Black on this harness. Most people will not use that wire anyway; the orange wire in the harness labeled "illumination" is the one most people will use. For most aftermarket stereos it's just a matter of matching the wires on this harness to the same color wires on your stereo's harness. It can't get much easier than that...
The Good:
Easy to install
Good quality
Price
The Bad:
One mislabeled wire in the instructions

PIE TOY03-AUX Auxiliary Input Converter for Toyota Radios Review

PIE TOY03-AUX Auxiliary Input Converter for Toyota Radios
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I previously had experience with Precision Interface Electronics (PIE) from purchasing an AUX input adapter for my 2002 Honda Civic, which worked great on that vehicle.
I recently purchased a 2007 Toyota Tacoma and expected my $80+ purchase of this TOY03-AUX PIE adapter to work just as it did on my Honda. Wrong.
After installation, I noticed the volume level of the device I was connecting to (Delphi SkyFi 2 XM Radio)was totally unacceptable. I would have the turn the volume of my factory radio to near maximum to listen to my XM radio. Turning up the volume also meant hearing more of the electronic hiss from either or both the XM radio and the factory head unit. I tried my portable MP3 player as well as other devices and had the same result.
After a few weeks of frustration, I exchanged the PIE AUX adapter for the same thing, thinking (hoping) it was defective. With optimism, I took apart the dash of my new truck once more to replace the adapter, and double checking my connections. Guess what? Same result. Ugh!
With the lousy sound quality I'm getting through the PIE AUX adapter, I don't even listen to my XM radio too much anymore. I've been thinking about cancelling my XM service now because of the lack of use.
I've know of other AUX input adatpers. One made by USA-SPEC and the other by Blitzsafe. I would recommend you try these before purchasing the PIE adapter because the PIE adapter is no good. Learn from my mistake.

I'm only writing this to completely review all of the products that I bought to install a radio in my jeep. The bracket was barely adequate and the radio sucked. This harness was the highlight of the purchase. The bag was clearly labeled, to include simple wiring instructions and the connections fit my vehicles wiring harness. One doesn't expect much out of a pre-assembled wiring harness, and this product will meet your expectations. It was defintely worth the $2.

Kenwood KDC-MP342U WMA/MP3 CD Receiver with Satellite/HD Radio/Bluetooth Ready Front Panel USB/AUX Input Review

Kenwood KDC-MP342U WMA/MP3 CD Receiver with Satellite/HD Radio/Bluetooth Ready Front Panel USB/AUX Input
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my 2nd MP3 player by kenwood. My first one was a much older model and after what seems like easily 6 or 7 years of faithful service I decided to upgrade.
The usb port on the front is what makes it worth the upgrade. I can put thousands of songs onto a dirt cheap thumbdrive and not have to worry about MP3 cd's all over my car.
The headunit also breathed new life into my 11 year old factory volvo speakers. I had no idea they could sound as good as they do. I've still got plans to put a recently acquired set of boston acoustic 6.5" speakers in the front doors but I'm re-thinking my decision to also upgrade the rear door and rear deck speakers.
As far as the things about the unit that I don't like, they're very minor. For one, the 1~6 buttons control playback options and what not. The numbers of the buttons are very easy to read as they're lit up but the functions is in a gray colored text that makes it hard to read. Before actually reading it in the manual, I didn't know how to pause playback. The number 6 button does that but you wouldn't know by looking at the unit because the little play/pause label is nearly impossible to read.
also, when adjusting the bass, mids and treble, like my older unit, these only go to 8. Why 8??? Why not 10? Kenwood, this makes no sense. Stop it. Also, I'm a little disappointed to see the attenuation button absent from the unit. I used that pretty frequently on my older one but I guess they have to save something for the units that cost more than $110. :D
Anyways, minor complaints and that's about it. The unit sounds great, and aside from initially figuring out what the small buttons do, I really like it. The music is easier to hear on the interstate as well. That was an unexpected surprise.

Kenwood's KDC-MP342U delivers playback of your CDs and CD-Rs, MP3/WMA/AAC files from disc or via the unit's front USB port, AM/FM radio, and two versatile pre-amp outputs for system expansion. Add additional Kenwood devices for Bluetooth or satellite/HD radio.

Detachable Faceplate Deter theft with the detachable faceplate, which features a 14 segment FL display and lets you turn Scrolling on or off. The rotary encoder provides easy, intuitive operation and the blue key illumination with dimmer function looks great in any vehicle.

CD and WMA/MP3/AAC Playback Play your favorite CDs and CD-Rs, or enjoy your favorite WMA/MP3/AAC digital files burned to CD or on a USB device plugged into the KDC-MP342U's front USB slot. Enjoy hours of music and ID-3 tag display for artist and title info.

iPod 1-wire Connection If you own an iPod, simply connect it to a Kenwood CD receiver via the USB cable that comes with the iPod. Better yet, use the optional KCA-iP100 1-wire iPod Interface Cable for crystal clear digital audio playback. You'll supply power to your iPod as well as charge it while you enjoy your music.

FM/AM Tuner When you feel like letting someone else control the programming, switch to the radio. Features 18 FM and six AM presets for your convenience.

Room to Grow The KDC-MP342U features two 2V pre-amp outputs for system expansion. These are switchable between front/rear/sub settings, with a subwoofer level and adjustable low pass filter, so you have a few options for setting up your system.

Remote Control Let your passengers control the music from the back seat with the included remote.

Front USB/AUX Connection The DPX503 features a USB and AUX connector up front that makes connecting a USB mass-storage device easier than ever. For the auxiliary input, input sensitivity correction adjusts volume or input level depending on the characteristics of the input source.

Supreme When a music file is compressed, some frequencies signals are lost, particularly if it is encoded using a low bit rate. The Supreme technology is a Kenwood-original audio compensation technology that compensates for this loss and reproduces music in a more natural form, thereby making it possible to play music recorded using low bit rates (64k to 96k) in an audio-quality equivalent to music recorded using a higher bit rate (equivalent to 128k). Enjoy a natural, rich sound, even with lower compression ratios.

Bluetooth Ready Add the optional KCA-BT200 to enjoy hands-free operation of the KDC-MP342U, allowing you to keep your hands on the steering wheel allowing you better concentration on your driving. Advanced Bluetooth technology provides wireless connection and operation of Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as mobile phones and even phones that can stream music via A2DP.

HD and Satellite Radio Ready The KDC-MP342U allows you to enjoy SIRIUS (requires CA-SR20V cable + Sirius Tuner) or XM (requires Audiovox CNP2000UC and CPKEN1) radio in your vehicle. Enjoy a multitude of channels featuring music, news, talk shows, sports, and traffic information with CD quality sound.

You also can add an HD Radio tuner. When you connect an HD radio tuner, features of the unit are disabled and changed to HD Radio tuner features.

I purchased this radio and installed it myself about a week ago. I love it. It looks great and it is so simple and easy to use!
I have no idea why people are saying the interface is bad and it takes a ton of clicks to get anywhere. Maybe they are taking the long way? It takes me no more than 5-10 seconds to make any adjustments. I also find the volume very easy to control. You don't accidentally enter any menus by adjusting the volume. You would definitely have to try to get into the menus.
The flip down to access the CD drive is great - it keeps it clean and lasts longer. The colors are great and the removable faceplate keeps the radio from being stolen.
The sound clarity is amazing as well. The USB port is great. I just plug in my iPod with the cable that came with it (same one you use to hook it up to your computer). It charges it and I can control the songs right from my radio! No sense in paying for the auxiliary cable PLUS cable to charge it because you can do it all through the USB that came with the iPod.
I'm beyond happy with my choice! I would highly recommend this radio and would definitely buy it again.

Panasonic Car Audio CQRX400U 50Wx4 MP3/WMA/AAC Head Unit (Bluetooth, Satelite & iPod Ready) Review

The best thing that I like about this stereo is the ease of use due to the USB port on the front of the stereo. I like the interface, because it's easy to navigate. I appreciate the pause button, which I seldom see in car stereos. While I would have to agree with the previous review which said that the display is somewhat of a letdown, I personally have no problem seeing what's on display, whether it's day or night. The stereo has a built-in amplifier that provides great sound, even to the worn speakers in my car. I would recommend this stereo to anyone!
