(More customer reviews)While looking for an alternative to Apple's Component AV and Composite AV Cables each priced at $39, a product from SKIVA appeared on Amazon. Their MEDIAADAPTER combines both for less than the cost of one of Apple's cables.
The unit is shipped with two AV cables, a USB adapter and the adapter that plugs into the iPad/iPod/iPhone connector. The AV cables plug into the adapter in clearly marked sockets while the USB adapter plugs in between them.
Switches on the unit allow for Composite, Component, NTSC/PAL and 16:9/4:3 aspect ratios. The latter two handy for foreign travel and connecting to older CRT TVs.
Simply plug the adapter in the connector on the bottom of the iPad/iPod/iPhone and Component or Composite cables into the TV. The audio cables are common to both, so if using Component inputs on the TV, connect the red, green and blue cables and the red and white audio cables to the TV. If Composite is being used, connect the red and white audio cables and the yellow video cable.
As of now, Netflix, Youtube and Apple's iPod and Video apps support video out. It is up to the app developers to support video out, not SKIVA.
The MEDIAADAPTER works as advertised. This is a great product that allows connecting an iPad/iPod/iPhone at home or more importantly, while traveling or going to someone's home or at work to show videos to a group. Included is a Quick Start Guide that is clearly written.

(More customer reviews)All I wanted to do was use my iPhone 4 to stream Netflix into the minivan's entertainment system. This cable fit the intended purpose as expected, so I recommend it. I'm sure the kids will now have a much better time on long road trip this summer.
First I set the van's audio and video inputs. Then I plugged this in and ran the Netflix App, after that I hit play and everything was good to go. Very easy.
There are only three minor situations to note:
1. Blister packs stink, don't expect this one to be any different... don't cut your cable.
2. The composite inputs are not color coded on the outside, but within the plug. So look down the barrel of the plug where the pin protrudes, then you will see the color red or yellow. This might be a bit confusing for the kids at first, but if your aware, no problem. Low light might cause problems as well.
3. The cable does not come with a usb/ac adapter... just grab the adapter that came with your iPhone, your going to need to keep your phone charged on long trips.
I looked as some other similar cables, but those cost as much as $20 more. I don't see any reason to go with those instead of this one. This cable has worked out great, plus it is an event better value with Amazon Prime as you get free and fast shipping.
I can't comment on durability at this point, but it looks like it is going to work out fine.

(More customer reviews)I have only been using this for a few days, maybe a week, so I can't speak to the longevity of it yet (I'll update this review if anything is noteworthy). However, what I can say is that it fulfills my iphone sync cable needs. By this, I mean that it successfully charges and syncs my phone. Nothing special. But that's good - cables are meant to be in the background, they are most successful at what they do if they go unnoticed. When do you notice a cable? When it stops working, or if it breaks something that's attached to it, or if it does something weird. This one is totally boring, which is great. I mean, the color is super-cute, but that's about as exciting as a cable's going to get.
Some off-brand iphone cables have weird buttons and clasps on the end that plugs into the phone (the not-USB end), making the entire plastic end-piece much larger, which can sometimes make it difficult to use docks and stands that require you to provide your own sync cable. This one is not one of those - it looks exactly like the picture.

I guess that the connection is not optimized for this device because it is always needing constant pressure (ie physical force) to keep it connected during bumpy roads. My daughters Ipod Nano worked well on that note. The rubber bumpers on the back melted off in 90 degree weather and I had it sitting in my cup holder and when I closed it the USB connector was pinched and cracked. I'd like to return it soon

(More customer reviews)Bought this yesterday and really like it. The connector to the ipod is thru the bottom charge/sync port. The cord comes out of that, then divides in 2 -- one goes to the aux port and the other to the dc connector (cigarette lighter) in the car. (so the headphone port in the ipod touch is not used at all).
The only limitation is that the car's aux port & dc connector need to be close to each other for this to work.
In my car (a new Prius), the aux & dc connector are located inside the console storage area -- this is perfect with the Kensington device because I can tuck my ipod touch into the console and if I leave my car, it's not visible.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit to add GPS to my iPad, and also to be able to use GPS when my iPhone 4 is in airplane mode.
This product works great, exactly as described. You simply plug the unit into the iPad/iPhone/iTouch and it adds native GPS support to every app. I can't emphasize that enough, the apps you already own work great with it, they don't need to be updated at all to work.
The bad elf gps collects and keeps an atlas of the GPS satellites on board the unit, so even from a cold start it finds it's position very quickly. This is a high performance GPS too, it works at altitude in a jet aircraft just fine, even at 35,000' at 500 mph, when the native iPhone 4 GPS couldn't even find it's position. (Refer to any airline's policies on portable electronic equipment before operating any iDevice inflight, but I'm sure you knew that.)
Of course this GPS draws it's power from the iPad/iPhone/iTouch, so it does drain the battery some. My experience using an iPhone 4, using a program called Skycharts Pro, with a constant screen full bright updates (worse case) was that it drained 15% of the battery life an hour. Since the iPad has a much bigger battery, I expect excellent battery life using this unit with the iPad's glorious 10" screen.
If you have access to a power source, you don't even need to be concerned about battery life, it has a USB type plug and cord included that you can use to power/charge/sync the iDevice while using the GPS. The only small downside is that my car charger uses a docking plug, I have to buy a new car charger that I can plug a USB cable into instead, an input 30 pin connector would have been better in my opinion.
I am recommending this product to anyone who wants to add GPS to their apple devices, or those who change devices every year, as this device can transfer as newer iPads & iPod touches enter the market.

I haven't really compared whether or not the "quick charge" slot charges any faster than the regular charge slot, but I have been pleased with how well it works overall and that we can charge one or two of our family's devices at a time. We have iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch (3rd gen) devices that are compatible with the charger. The blue light that indicates that there is power from the car to the adapter is nice (it charges only if the car ignition key switch is turned two notches or the car is running). It's just a bit odd having the slots be on the side of the charger (sometimes you can't see which is the quick charge slot, which you of course want to use if only charging one device), but it really isn't a big deal. Very satisfied with this purchase and am looking to buy another one for our other car.

(More customer reviews)I just got an iPAD (YEA!) and found to my dismay that I can only charge it from the wall adapter (unless ofcourse you have a MAC.... and I dont). I found this product purely by chance on a blackberry forum and found that it can charge an iPAD from any PC USB port. Sure enough it charges my iPAD from my Acer computer and the cable included with the iPAD does not.
Other additional goodies about this product is that it charges even when the Acer PC is in standby saving me the trouble of having the PC on (saves me $$ in electricity which is always good). It also charges my sons iPOD faster than the Apple cable does.
Throw into the mix that it can charge my blackberry 9700 and my Nokia E72 and we have a winner.
This seems like such a no-brainer product but it seems to be a first in the market. Love it!

The output is -only- enabled during video playback. If you want to put movies on your TV or video screen, this is for you. If you hoped to put your games and apps up on the big screen for others to see, the Apple devices simply don't support that. No flaw in the cable, but I wanted you to understand the issue before you bought it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this cable for use with my I phone 3 G, dock station, and Otter Box. As another review stated, it will not work with the otter box as is. I contacted CableJive and they made no mention of working on a fix for this, but suggested that some users were able to file the cable down to fit into the otterbox. I did so using a hand file and it works great. Its important to take off a little bit at a time to narrow the plastic around the plug that goes to the phone and round the corners to go into the otterbox. Just remember that its on you if you screw it up. The sound quality is just as good as if my phone was plugged directly in to the dock station, and all functions work such as charging etc.

Since there is no bend protection behind the connectors, the sharp bend quickly broke the connection inside and it stopped working all-together. Also, the retractor stopped catching, causing the cord to whip back in randomly. Although the price was very cheap, unless you want to buy a handful a year, spend a little more money and save yourself a headache.

Apple iPad 10W USB Power Adapter (MC359LL/A) Review

(More customer reviews)Something that comes along with every "cool" device out there are the overpriced accessories and this power adapter is no exception.
In owning my iPad for a month, I've spent about half of what the device costs just on accessories for it. Most of them are to add functionality (camera kit, keyboard), some add security (case, bag, screen protector), some add convenience (bluetooth headphones, dock/stand).
This device fits into the last category. Unfortunately you do pay for the convenience and the looks of the device (something that looks sleek and matches your iProduct). It's very similar to the power adapter your iPad comes with, except this one has a 6 foot "cord" attachment. (basically the prongs on the power adapter pop off and a 6 foot extension cord plugs in where the prongs used to go - you can try it on your included adapter). The included adapter (with the iPad) is about 3 feet long which just isn't enough if you plan to plug it in and set the iPad on your desk. Most of the time its just SLIGHTLY too short - another 6-12 inches of cord and you'd be fine. If you're in that situation where you need just a little more reach, this is your "official" option. The bonus is that it gives you an extra power adapter (good for keeping at work or with you in case you need to charge it). I was a bit disappointed to see that the cord isn't a perfect match for the power adapter (color is a bit off, it's thicker than the USB cord, etc..) - something you'd figure would be "perfect" for the premium being charged. Also of note is that it used a 3-prong plug (2 and a ground) opposed to the 2 prong piece included with the flip-out 'default' power adapter - this can be an issue for anyone who doesn't have a 3-prong outlet available.
In the end, if you don't need a second power adapter or you just don't care how "nice" it looks, a simple RiteAV - 6 ft. Power Extension Cord will do the same thing to your current adapter at 1/10th the price. If you'd like a "nicer looking" option, or simply a 2nd power brick to take with you, this is the way to go.
